Land Rover BAR Academy claim podium finish in Muscat

It all came down to a nail biting final race in Muscat - the podium was wide open - but new team, Land Rover BAR Academy put in some solid racing, to claim a third place finish at their debut Act of the Extreme Sailing Series.

Six races were sailed – taking it to 19 in total – in some of the windiest conditions of the regatta. Oman Air continued their strong lead from the off, claiming first place at their home event, leaving the battle commencing for the second and third podium spots. Red Bull Extreme Sailing went on to to claim second, nine points ahead of the third placed British entry.

Bleddyn Mon, Land Rover BAR Academy skipper on the team’s first performance, “I think it was all pretty tight going into today, it was all to play for - it could have gone anywhere from a second or third place finish down to fifth or sixth so it was always going to be close.

“We started the day with quite a tricky breeze and we had a few clangers in there, but during the last two races the breeze shifted and went round to more of an on-shore breeze so it was more steady - and we did a good job, placing a couple of third places.”

“We are really happy with the overall result, we have been learning a lot everyday, bit of a range of conditions so the guys have had an experience of four to fifteen knots so that’s been a good learning curve. There is still plenty to work on and it will be interesting to see where we go from here – on the podium on the first event is a good effort, so we need to try and keep that going for the rest of the season.”

The Extreme Sailing Series continues with Act 2, Qingdao - China 29th April– 2nd May.
